Configure features for the Yealink TW56P
Use this guide to learn more about the features and functions of the Yealink TW56P phone.

Function Buttons
These buttons are key to many of the feature processes of the Cisco IP 8800 series phones:
- Navigation Cluster - The navigation cluster is the circular buttons in the middle of your phone. Press up or down to scroll through the options, lists, and menus. Press the center button to select the highlighted item.
- Softkey Buttons - The softkey buttons, located beneath the main display are used to perform various functions that appear directly above them. The softkey functions may change to support your current activity. For example, when you’re on a call, the softkey functions help you manage that call.
Make and receive calls
Place a call
- Enter the number using the keypad.
- Then press the Off-hook, Speakerphone, or OK key.
Place more than one call
You can have more than one call on your phone. To place a new call during an active call, use one of the following ways:
- Press the New Call soft key. Enter the desired number using the keypad. Press the Off-hook, Speakerphone, or OK key to dial out.
- Press the Options soft key. Select the Directory, and then press the OK soft key. Select the desired group, and then press the Enter soft key. Select the desired contact. Press the Off-hook key, Speakerphone, OK, or the Call soft key.
Answer a call when on another call
If you have an active call, and an incoming call arrives on the phone, you can answer in the following ways:
- Press the Down arrow key to select the new call.
- Press the Off-hook, Speakerphone, or OK key. The incoming call is answered and the original call is placed on hold.
Reject a call
You can ignore an incoming call by pressing the Silence soft key or the On-hook key.
End a call
Press the On-hook key or place the handset in the charger cradle.
Enable calling functions
Place a call on mute
You can mute the microphone during an active call. When muting the microphone, you can hear the other party but he or she cannot hear you. For example, if you do not want the other party to listen to the conversation when you talk to someone in the room, you can mute the microphone temporarily.
To mute a call:
- Press the Mute key to mute the microphone during a call.
- The mute key icon is displayed on the LCD screen.
To unmute a call:
- Press the Mute key again.
- The mute key disappears from the LCD screen.
Place a call on hold
You can place an active call on hold. At any time, at most one active call can be in progress on your handset. You can answer or make another call while placing the original call on hold. To place a call on hold:
- Press the Options soft key during a call, and then select Hold.
- The call is placed on hold, and the hold icon is displayed on the LCD screen.
Resume a call that was placed on hold
To resume the call, do one of the following:
- Press the Resume soft key.
- Press the Speakerphone key
- Press the Off-hook key.
If two calls are placed on hold on the handset, press the Resume soft key to resume the current call. Press Up or Down arrow, or the Swap soft key to swap between two calls.
Enable call forwarding
To enable call forward:
- Press OK to enter the main menu.
- Select Call Features > Call Forward. The LCD screen displays the incoming lines currently assigned to the handset. The default incoming line is highlighted and followed by a left arrow.
- Press the Up or Down arrows to highlight the desired line, and then press the OK soft key.
- Press the Up or Down arrows to highlight the desired forwarding type, and then press the OK soft key.
- Press the Left or Right arrows to select Enabled from the Status field.
- Enter the destination number you want to forward incoming calls to in the Target field.
- Press the Left or Right arrows to select the desired ring time to wait before forwarding from the After Ring Time field (only available for No Answer Forward).
- Press the Save soft key to accept the change.
Do not disturb
To turn on do not disturb:
- Press OK to enter the main menu.
- Select Call Features.
- Then , select Do Not Disturb.
- The LCD screen displays the incoming lines currently assigned to the handset. The default incoming line is highlighted and followed by a left arrow.
- Press the Up or Down arrows to highlight the desired line, and then press the OK soft key.
- Press the Left or Right arrows to select Enabled from the Status field.
- Press the Save soft key to accept the change.
- The DND icon on the status bar indicates the DND mode is activated.
Transfer a call
You can transfer a call to another party during a call in one of three ways:
- Blind transfer - Transfer a call directly to another party without consulting.
- Consulted transfer - Transfer a call when the target phone is ringing.
- Direct transfer to voicemail - Transfer a call with prior consulting.
Blind transfer
To transfer a call to another person without talking to them privately about the caller beforehand. While on an active call:
- Press the Options soft key during a call, and then select Transfer. You can also press Transfer (TRAN) key directly.
- Enter the number or select the handset you want to transfer the call to.
- Press Transfer (TRAN) or the Transfer soft key. The call is connected to the number or the handset you specified.
Consulted transfer
To talk privately about a call before transferring. While on an active call:
- Press the Options soft key during a call, and then select Transfer. You can also press TRAN key directly.
- You can do one of the following
- Enter the number or select the handset you want to transfer the call to. Press the Off-hook, Speakerphone, or OK key to dial out.
- Press the Directory soft key, and then select the desired contact. Press the Off-hook, Speakerphone, or OK key.
- Press TRAN or the Transfer soft key to complete the transfer when receiving ringback.
Direct transfer to voicemail
Transfer a call directly to another user’s voicemail without ringing their phone, while on an active call:
- Press the More softkey.
- Then press the Blind Transfer softkey.
- Dial *55 followed by the extension you would like to transfer the call to. This completes the transfer to voicemail.
Access your call history
Access call History for placed, answered, and missed calls:
- Press OK to enter the main menus
- Press the History soft key when the phone is idle, press the Up or Down arrow to scroll through the list and press the OK soft key.
- Select an entry from the list and press the Option soft key to do the following:
- Press the Off-hook or Spearkphone key to call the entry.
- Press the Delete soft key to delete the entry from the list.
- Select Detail to view detailed information about the entry.
- Select Add to Contact to add the entry to the local directory.
- Select Add to Blacklist to add the entry to the blacklist.
- Select Delete All to delete all entries from the list
Retrieve your voicemail
The message waiting indicator on the idle screen indicates that one or more voice messages are waiting at the message center. The power indicator LED slowly flashes red, and the LCD screen with the number of unread voicemails.
To retrieve your voicemail:
- Press OK to enter the main menu.
- Select Voice Mail > Play Message. If you have not set the voice mail access code, it will enter the setting screen, you should configure it first.
- (Optional.) Press the Up or Down arrow to highlight the desired line, and then press the Select soft key. The handset dials out the voice mail access code using the selected line automatically.
- Follow the voice prompt from the system server to listen to your voicemails.
Transfer your voicemail messages
Sometimes you receive voicemail messages that are meant for another co-worker or would like for a colleague to listen to information left in a voicemail message. In these instances, it is easiest to simply transfer the voicemail to his or her extension instead of transcribing the information and calling or emailing your co-worker.
To transfer your voicemail message:
- Call your Voice Portal, either by dialing your business phone number or by pressing the message button, if applicable.
- Proceed to enter your passcode, usually a 4-digit number followed by the pound (#) key. The prompt for the voicemail menu options will begin.
- Press 1 to listen to your current voice message.
- Press 9 for additional options.
- Press 2 to forward the current message. You will be asked to record an introduction prior to sending the message. Once finished, press the pound (#) key. Note: This step is required, and you will not be able to proceed until you record an introduction.
- Press 3 to forward to 1 or more destinations.
- You will then be prompted to enter the extension/mailbox ID of the new recipient followed by the pound (#) key.
- Your voice message will now be sent to the extension/mailbox ID previously entered.
- Once finished, you can end the call or listen to additional voicemail menu options.
Setting up your extended away greeting
- Call your Voice Portal, either by dialing your business phone number or by pressing the message button, if applicable.
- Proceed to enter your passcode, usually a 4-digit number followed by the pound (#) key. The prompt for the voicemail menu options will begin.
- Press 4 to access the Extended Away Greeting menu.
- Press 3 to record your Extended Away Greeting. You will be prompted to record your message following the tone. Once finished, click on the pound key (#).
- To activate your Extended Away Greeting, press 1.
- Your Extended Away Greeting has now been activated.
To deactivate the Extended Away Greeting, follow the steps 1 through 3. When prompted, press 2 to deactivate the Extended Away Greeting.
Advanced feature for the Yealink TW56P
Configure anonymous call rejection
You can use anonymous call rejection to reject incoming calls from anonymous callers. Anonymous call rejection automatically rejects incoming calls from callers who deliberately block their identities and numbers from being displayed. Anonymous call rejection is configurable on a per-line basis.
To enable anonymous call rejection:
- Press OK to enter the main menu.
- Select Call Features > Anon.Call Rejection. The LCD screen displays the incoming lines currently assigned to the handset. The default incoming line is highlighted and followed by a left arrow.
- Press the Up or Down arrow to highlight the desired line, and then press the OK soft key.
- Press the Left or Right arrow to select the desired value from the Status field.
- Press the OK soft key to accept the change.
